RESUMO Na verificação de elementos estruturais em situação de incêndio por meio de equações analíticas, e mesmo via modelagem numérica, normalmente são empregados parâmetros e propriedades dos materiais simplificados. Entretanto, os resultados obtidos podem ser bastante sensíveis ao grau de simplificação adotado pelo projetista ou mesmo conforme à escolha de uma ou outra opção de propriedade dos materiais envolvidos. No presente artigo foi apresentado um estudo de sensibilidade considerando a variação das propriedades dos materiais; visando auxiliar a escolha desses parâmetros dentre as diversas opções descritas na literatura. O estudo de sensibilidade foi elaborado para pilares compostos por tubos de aço de seção circular e quadrada, vazio e preenchidos com concreto, e com as propriedades do aço e concreto indicadas pelo Eurocode ou por normas brasileiras para o dimensionamento de estruturas em situação de incêndio. Também foi analisado o comportamento do modelo conforme variações no teor de umidade do concreto e variações da emissividade da superfície de aço exposta ao fogo. O estudo foi realizado em modelo numérico desenvolvido no software ABAQUS e os resultados obtidos demonstram que os valores de 0,7 e 0,8, recomendados na literatura para a emissividade resultante, são conservadores e a alternância entre esses dois valores não altera, significativamente, o campo de temperaturas na seção transversal do elemento estrutural. Já com relação ao teor de umidade do concreto foram verificadas alterações significativas no campo de temperaturas, inclusive na temperatura do tubo de aço, com a alternância deste parâmetro. Com relação às propriedades físicas e mecânicas dos materiais, o estudo de sensibilidade sugere a adoção dos valores obtidos a partir das equações sem simplificações apresentadas no Eurocode e com o valor do calor específico do concreto determinado conforme Eurocode 4.

ABSTRACT For the dimensioning of structural elements in fire situation, simplified equations and parameters are commonly used in analytical equations or numerical models. More complex equations or simplified values can be chosen by the designer for determine materials properties in high temperature in numerical models, however, numerical modeling can be quite sensitive to the variation of some of the physical and mechanical properties. In this paper, the sensitivity of the numerical model in relation to the values according to the level of simplification chosen was evaluated, presenting an analysis in relation to the results found to contribute to the choice of these parameters and presenting the indications found in the literature. In this sense, this work presents a study of sensitivity to the variation of the values of steel and concrete properties, presented in the Eurocode and Brazilian standards, in addition to the moisture content and emissivity of the surface exposed to fire, for the dimensioning, in a fire situation, of steel tube columns, of circular and square section, filled with concrete. The studies were carried out via numerical modeling developed in the software ABAQUS. It was verified that the resulting emissivity values equal to 0.7 or 0.8, recommended in the literature, are conservative, and the choice of either does not bring significant changes in the temperature field obtained for the structural elements under analysis. It was also verified that the concrete moisture content is a relevant aspect for the formation of its temperature field, also affecting, but to a lesser extent, the steel temperature. Regarding the physical and mechanical properties of the materials, this sensitivity study suggests the adoption of the values from the equations presented in Eurocodes, without simplifications, and with the specific heat and thermal conductivity of the concrete, adopted in accordance with the Eurocode 4.

Resumo A verificação da resistência ao fogo de pilares tubulares preenchidos com concreto é necessária, uma vez que há uma drástica redução na resistência do aço e do concreto com a elevação da temperatura. A simulação numérica, com inquestionáveis vantagens econômicas em relação aos ensaios em laboratório, tem grande importância na verificação da resistência e na definição e ajustes de modelos analíticos para uso na prática de projeto. Entretanto, parâmetros intervenientes como o comportamento térmico e mecânico do concreto confinado quando aquecido ou mesmo do chamado “air-gap”, fenômeno inerente a pilares de aço preenchidos com concreto quando aquecidos, ainda carecem de melhor aprofundamento quanto à modelagem numérica. Para tanto, neste trabalho, apresenta-se o desenvolvimento de um modelo numérico no software ABAQUS (Dassault Systemes SIMULIA Corp., 2014), para análise térmico-mecânica de pilares curtos compostos por tubos de aço de seção circular e quadrada, preenchidos com concreto, considerando o efeito do“air-gap”. O fenômeno do “air-gap” é apresentado e discutido em função das possibilidades de implementação no modelo numérico e, por fim, o modelo desenvolvido é validado por meio de resultados experimentais retirados da literatura. Com base nos resultados obtidos, se conclui que o modelo numérico pode ser utilizado para avaliação, ajustes e desenvolvimento de processos simplificados para verificação de pilares mistos em situação de incêndio; sendo recomendada a análise conjunta térmico-mecânica e a utilização do solver explicit como estratégia para minimizar o tempo de processamento. Aimportância da consideração do efeito do “air-gap” foi confirmada e desprezar o seu efeito pode resultar em avaliação superestimada da capacidade resistente do tubo de aço em situação de incêndio.

Abstract The increase in temperature reduces the strength of steel and concrete, in such a way that it is essential to verify concrete-filled steel tube columns in fire situations. Numerical simulations, with lower costs than laboratory tests, have great importance in checking resistance and defining simplified methods for design practice. However, peculiarities of the thermal and mechanical behavior of heated confined concrete and the air-gap effect (a phenomenon inherent to concrete-filled steel columns) must still be better understood. Therefore, this study presents the development of a numerical model performed in the ABAQUS software (Dassault Systemes SIMULIA Corp., 2014) for the thermomechanical analysis of short columns composed of circular and square concrete-filled steel tubes considering the air-gap effect. The air-gap phenomenon is presented and analyzed according to possibilities of implementation to the numerical model and, finally, the proposed numerical model is validated with experimental results presented in the literature. According to the study results, the numerical model can be used to define and adjust simplified methods for verification of composite columns in fire situation. The importance of considering the air-gap effect in numerical modeling was confirmed, taking into account that disregarding its effect may result in overestimated responses of the steel tube resistance in fire situations. Moreover, it was suggested thermomechanical joint analysis and the use of the explicit solver as a strategy to minimize processing time.

Abstract The reduction of natural resources combined with a substantial increase in the generation of solid waste in large urban centers, justifies the search for methods of reusing the construction industry waste. The ceramic industry has a high disposal rate during the manufacturing, transportation and eventual replacement of its products. In this case, research on the reuse of ceramic materials is urgent. A possible solution is the employment of ceramic waste as a coarse aggregate in structural concrete. Therefore, the mechanical properties of this new mix of concrete have to be assessed. This study evaluates the bond strength between steel rebar and concrete with ceramic waste aggregates, by means of the pull-out test method, proposed by RILEM-FIP-CEB (1978). Three concrete mixtures were produced: a mixture without any replacement, and two other mixtures with gradual substitution of natural coarse aggregate by ceramic coarse aggregate (40% and 100% substitution, in volume). Nine cylindrical specimens, three for each of the concrete mixtures, were evaluated in laboratorial conditions. Results concerning bond stress between concrete and steel rebar indicated the feasibility of employing ceramic waste to replace part of the coarse aggregate in structural concrete.

Abstract The composite structures formed by the association of steel profiles with concrete have shown to be an advantageous alternative, improving the behavior of the steel structures concerning their load capacity, stiffness, and durability, under fire conditions. The concrete-filled tubular columns have become an attractive alternative for the civil construction area, offering constructive and esthetic advantages. The Eurocode 4 (EN 1994-1-2, 2002) and ABNT NBR 14323:2013 show simple methods for the design of the composite columns under fire situations. Nevertheless, these present limitations in their application. In addition, regarding the determination of the temperature field in the cross section, the Eurocode 4 (EN 1994-1-2, 2002) describes a specific procedure for columns with section profile covered with concrete, but it is neglectful about concrete-filled tubular columns. The goal of this paper is to present a simplified procedure to determine the temperature registered in concrete-filled steel columns and apply the procedure to columns with square section tubes. The temperature distribution was determined by simulations using the computer package ABAQUS (Dessault Systemes Simulia Corp. 2013). After the studies, it has been considered that the procedure described in this paper is an effective alternative for the determination of the field's temperature and for the application of the design of the concrete-filled columns under fire conditions.

Resumo O Brasil carece de uma legislação sobre alvenaria estrutural em situação de incêndio. Por conta disso, o Corpo de Bombeiros do Estado de São Paulo (2011) recomenda que se faça esse dimensionamento de acordo com as recomendações do Eurocode 6 (2005) ou norma internacional similar. Com o intuito de subsidiar futuras discussões sobre uma normatização nacional, neste artigo são apresentados os procedimentos de dimensionamento da alvenaria estrutural em situação de incêndio em vigor nos Estados Unidos, na Europa e na Austrália. Ao final, sem deixar ao largo o questionamento da aplicabilidade dessas três normas à situação brasileira, por conta das diferenças de materiais utilizados tanto nos blocos quanto nos acabamentos, sugere-se mesclar o que há de interessante nesses três códigos internacionais, de forma gradativa, na elaboração de futura norma brasileira sobre o assunto.

Abstract In Brazil, there is no standard regarding the design of masonry walls in fire situations. According to the Fire Department of the state of São Paulo (2011), either the Eurocode 6 (2005) or an equally recognized international Standard should be used in such a situation. In this article, design specifications for masonry walls in situation of fire are presented, according to the standard requirements in the United States of America, Europe and Australia. One might question the applicability of these codes in the Brazilian context, due to the different materials the structural units are made of and the rendering applied on the walls. Taking that into account, we suggest that the applicable elements of the three international standards should be gradually integrated into the development of a Brazilian standard.

Para se projetar um reforço à flexão com material polimérico reforçado com fibras, em uma viga de concreto armado, é necessário que o engenheiro responsável opte por trabalhar sem a utilização de mecanismos de incremento de ancoragem, obviamente dentro de níveis seguros, ou utilize artifícios que lhe garantam alcançar a deformação última de projeto da fibra fornecida pelo fabricante da manta. Nesse artigo, é apresentada a base para o cálculo das duas metodologias, segundo os critérios mais expressivos existentes, e são feitas comparações com resultados experimentais. Para o reforço sem ancoragem, verificou-se que, para se evitarem as indesejadas rupturas prematuras e bruscas, as metodologias propostas pelos ACI e FIB mostraram-se adequadas. Para se garantir a deformação última da fibra, foi estudado um mecanismo com ancoragem lateral a 45° feito com o próprio material da fibra. Nesse caso, utilizou-se o processo de seções balanceadas, para a previsão do modo de ruptura, e, em seguida, foram feitas as devidas comparações entre os valores esperados com os resultados obtidos nos ensaios em laboratório.

To design an externally bonded fiber reinforced plastic reinforcement for a reinforced concrete beam, it is necessary that the engineer responsible chooses to work without the use of mechanisms to increase the anchoring within safe levels, or make use of artifacts to ensure that the deformation in the fiber reaches ultimate state value supplied by the manufacturer. This article shows the basis for the calculation of the two methodologies under the existing criteria more expressively and also makes comparisons with laboratory tests. For enhancement without anchoring, it was found that to prevent unwanted premature and abrupt ruptures, the methods proposed by ACI and FIB showed to be adequate. To ensure the ultimate deformation of the fiber, a mechanism for anchoring in the form of a bow 45º made by the material of the fiber was studied. In this case, the process of balanced sections to foresee the mode of collapse were verified and then the appropriate comparisons were made between the expected values with the tests results found in the laboratory.
